I have always been a big fan of the Underworld film franchise…. at least the first three movies anyway…. and then instead of finishing the storyline and filling in the much need gap between Rise of the Lycans and the original film someone decided that a whole new next chapter in the series was more necessary and we ended up getting the horrible Underworld Awakenings instead (check out my review, Why I hated Underworld Awakening, Let me Count the Ways)
But now as the next sequel quickly approached titled “Underworld the next generation” coming out this October, some other possibly good news has surfaced…. Len Wiseman the creator and original director of the first two films and producer on Rise of the Lycans is currently working on a television series, a show that I pray will give the fans some much needed closure on the original storylines.
in an interview with Collider at this year’s Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Wiseman confirmed he was still working on developing a television series based on the mythos of Underworld, specifically developing an Underworld tv series, though he didn’t want to give a concrete date for when fans may be seeing it:
Yes, there’s been a lot of conversations and even development on what that series would be. It’s really appropriate for television, in terms of how those characters can really tie in, but also become something new. It’s really an attractive space. I don’t want to put a date on it because then that’s going to be printed and it might not happen in that timeframe, but it is a thought.
Wiseman is currently developing a sixth Die Hard installment, Die Hard Year One, and, despite working mainly on films, does have experience in television with Sleepy Hollow and the upcoming Lucifer series at FOX.
