In a recent interview with Gamespot, former UFC Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey suggested her willingness to take on the role of Samus, should a Metroid film ever get off the ground. In addition to expressing her love for gaming in general, Rousey spoke highly of the character, telling Gamespot:

“I’ve always wanted to be Samus from the Metroid Game Series.  That would be badass. I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside…I hope they make a movie out of that.”

Now while Rousey has starred in a few Blockbuster Action films in the last few years, (Fast and Furious 7 and Expendables 3) and considering her MMA career may be slowing down due to her recent upset loss to Holly Hom and her request to be given “time off”  since then, her schedule may give her the chance for more film roles but I do not think she would succeed taking on such a diverse, long lived character from such a beloved and long running video game series as Metroid which is currently one of the longest running (behind of course Zelda and Super Mario Bros.) nintendo franchises, spanning ever console released.   Some hollywood critics have suggested other more seasoned actresses if and when a Metroid movie really gets going such as Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy) or Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) other names pitched have included Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Ali Larter (Heroes), or even Julianne Moore (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) but in my opinion the most intelligent name voiced is Angelina Jolie to be considered, a ideal I personally would love to see, as she has definitively shown she is more than capable playing a female heroine star character from a video game series, namely Tomb Raider.

Rainfall Films released an 11 minute fan film based on Metroid, “The Sky Calls”, to much acclaim online. check it out below:
