Imagine my  disgust dread suprise when I learned that a live action film based on the 1980’s cartoon Jem and the Holograms was scheduled for a big screen release this October.  I had not heard any real news or seen any trailers, I wonder why that is….

jem live action

… maybe because the film described as a “live-action romantic musical fantasy comedy-drama film” seriously even the marketing team for the movie is confused and by the teaser image above the film looks way too retro absurd, and for some ungodly reason feels like the unholy child of Masters of the Universe (1987) and Josie and the Pussycats.josie masters of the universe

Sorry He-Man, Josie, you and the girls get no apology.  Anyways, Jem and the Holograms is scheduled for release on Oct. 16th and includes   Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald in as yet unspecified role and a bunch of other girls playing the titular character whom I do not know and don’t care.

But it did make me wonder what other classic, retro animated 80’s properties were being considered for transition to the big screen.  Check out which of your favorite childhood retro  cartoon shows are coming up after the jump. (just a heads up, there is everything from Voltron to Captain Planet)
