When the first interview quotes by Sam Rockwell about the upcoming remake of the 1982 classic #horror #film Poltergeist first came out a few weeks ago there was anguish at his saying “… it is more of a kid’s movie.” … those few words taken out of context, in addition to the film being rated only PG-13
ironically the original film was only rated PG began a wave of speculation and doubt that another “ruined childhood classic” was on the horizon. However, since then Rockwell did clarify his statement at Sundance that the film is “…very intense and very scary…”
And that his earlier comments were actually describing the unique perspective of the film. Director Sam Raimi, has in this version, decided to make the brother the protagonist, making the whole film from his perspective. And while the trailer does share some rather
creepy unexpected suprising moments, it also appears to possibly imitate copy share too much, in terms of classic nostalgic scenes from the original… we can only hope that the “curse of the poltergeist franchise” has not continued to haunt this film as well and it becomes D.O.A.
