I have a confession to make, I am a sucker for the Alien franchise in all its forms and every one of it’s films, and yes that include ALL four of them, and the AVP films as well. And now if can be confirmed that Neill Blomkamp, director of the 2009 science fiction action sleeper hit District 9,
and the underwhelming film Elysium and Chappie is currently planning to write and direct the next “Alien” film.
The film will be a direct sequel to James Cameron’s 1986 ‘Aliens’ fitting directly into the established continuity without disrupting or disavowing films 3 or 4.Here is what Blomkamp has said regarding his concepts and ideals:
“My favorites are the first two movies. It’s a Freudian nightmare. That element to me is what is so appealing. To try to put the audience on the edge of their seat, in a traditional monster stalking you in a dark corridor way.”So I want to make a film that’s connected to ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens.’ That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo ‘Alien 3′ or ‘Alien Resurrection,’ I just wanted it to be connected to ‘Alien 1′ and ’2.’ “
“I want this film to feel like it’s literally the genetic sibling of ‘Aliens.’ So it’s ‘Alien,’ ‘Aliens,’ and then this movie.”“
